The residents have decided: 2 new rain gardens and 3 green enclaves in place of cobblestones
As part of the LIFE PACT project, we organised a series of 11 co-design workshops with the residents of Krakow, during which we jointly developed ideas for the development of two rain gardens and three green areas. The workshops took place in 5 different locations:
High School No. 14, 24 Chełmońskiego Street: Revitalisation of the square at the intersection of Ehrenberg and Chełmoński streets (2 meetings)
Primary School No. 30, 12 Konfederacka Street: Arrangement of Plant Dębnickich on Monte Cassino Street (2 meetings)
Primary School No. 55, ul. Dobczycka 20: Landscaping at the intersection of Marcowa, Gołaśka and Witosa Streets (3 meetings)
Primary School No. 13, ul. Ks. Józefa Meiera 16D: Creation of rain gardens in the park at Kuźnica Kołłątajowska (2 meetings)
Primary School No. 2, ul. Strzelców 5a: Creation of a rain garden on school grounds (2 meetings)
The aim of the Life Pact project, funded by the European Commission, is to build local partnerships and support nature-inspired initiatives in the city. Krakow residents decide on their immediate surroundings, leading to the transformation of several plots of land located close to residential areas.
One method for introducing more greenery and flowers into urban agglomerations is nature-based solutions (NBS), which assume that instead of fighting nature, we need to work with it, because this will enable the economy and society to make better use of resources, function in a more environmentally friendly way and become more resilient.
Over 100 people representing various social groups took part in the workshops:
Residents of individual districts
Representatives of District Councils and the Krakow City Council
Employees of the Krakow City Hall
Designers and landscape architects
School teachers and students
Representatives of non-governmental organisations
Workshops with residents of Banacha Street

Thanks to your involvement during the workshops, we have developed detailed concepts for the development of green areas that take into account the needs of residents and the specific characteristics of each location. These projects will now be implemented as part of the LIFE PACT project.
