Plac Budowy przekazany. Zaniedbany skwer przy Ehrenberga będzie zachwycać

The construction site has been handed over. The neglected square at Ehrenberga will soon delight

The square on Ehrenberga Street is currently an unauthorised car park. Nature is fighting to reclaim this space, with grass growing over parts of the concrete surface. An abandoned car is slowly being covered by plants, with wild vines spreading expansively.

The investment will include levelling and removing the cracked concrete surface and constructing a community garden. The first clean-up works will start this week. The square will be built in accordance with the residents' comments. During the workshops, the focus was on creating a quiet, clean, tidy place with small architectural features for relaxation and meetings.

Another location that was also handed over to the contractor today is the square at Monte Cassino. During earlier consultations, the majority of votes were cast in favour of combining the existing greenery with a landscaped and quiet space for relaxation. There will be benches, shrubs, trees and flowers. The most important thing for residents was to create a barrier separating the housing estate from the busy thoroughfare.

KEGW's efforts to obtain funding for nature-mimicking activities in the city have been ongoing for three years. The project is financed by the LIFE Programme and the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, with 15% coming from the City of Krakow's budget. Next year, nature-based solutions will be implemented in three more locations: Witosa, Banacha and Strzelców Streets. Life Pact is an important partnership programme that allows Krakow to replicate good and proven methods of participation with residents.
In this way, we are following in the footsteps of our Life Pact partners — Leuven and Madrid. There will be more proven ideas for adapting cities to climate change, said Grzegorz Mróz, Life Pact project manager.

The implementation of the Life Pact programme in Krakow, Madrid and Leuven will cost approximately €4 million.
