What is the LIFE Programme??

The LIFE Programme is a European Union initiative that supports projects in the fields of environmental protection, climate action, and sustainable development. Its goal is to support actions that help protect our planet while promoting innovative solutions and sustainable growth. The LIFE Programme has been operating since 1992 and is one of the European Commission’s main financial instruments for environmental protection.

 What types of projects are eligible for funding?

Grants under the LIFE Programme are awarded for:

  • Environmental and climate protection projects, such as pollution reduction, endangered species protection, and climate change adaptation.
  • Demonstration and pilot projects that test new technologies and innovative approaches.
  • Implementation of best practices in environmental and climate management.

The LIFE Programme funds a wide range of initiatives, including:

Programme Budget

For the period 2021–2027 the LIFE Programme has a budget of €5.43 billion. A significant portion of this amount is allocated to climate action and environmental protection, highlighting the strategic importance of the programme within the European Union’s policy framework.

Coordination in Poland

At the national level, coordination of activities related to the LIFE Programme is handled by the National Contact Point, operating within the structure of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. This is the place where applicants can obtain information about funding opportunities and receive support in preparing project proposals.
